Your computer can’t run Windows 11 — What does this mean?

Your computer can’t run Windows 11 — What does this mean?

What is Windows 11?

Windows 11 is the latest version of the Windows operating system. It looks a little different from Windows 10 but works pretty much the same way.

Why can’t I use Windows 11?

When Windows 11 came out, Microsoft made it so that only computers with certain parts could run Windows 11. Many older computers don’t have these parts inside of them. Some of these either cannot be upgraded to include these parts or are not worth the cost of upgrading.

Why is this important?

Windows 10 is reaching its end-of-life date on October 14, 2025, when Microsoft will stop releasing updates and security patches for Windows 10. This means that browsing the internet will become more dangerous, and the risk of your unit becoming infected with malware will be higher (even if you’re using an antivirus!). Eventually, you will also notice that certain programs will start to malfunction, and some programs will stop working on Windows 10 altogether. As an example, your internet browsers (programs like Google Chrome) won’t be able to access things like online banking anymore. In a nutshell, as of 10/14/25, Windows 10 will be an outdated operating system.

What should I do?

Sadly, the only real solution is to purchase a new computer. In most cases, if a computer cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, it’s not worth putting the time and money into upgrading its components. Our most recommended course of action for this scenario is to purchase a new computer. We can help you choose a new computer according to your needs and budget; we generally have some brand-new computers in stock at our shop. We can also set up your new computer and move the data from your old one to the new one.

If you don’t want to purchase a new computer, you may have to adjust how you use your computer once October 14, 2025, arrives. For example: If you choose to keep using your Windows 10 machine after this date, we highly recommend you no longer browse the internet with it. Opening emails on that computer would be a bad idea, too. But you can use it for editing pictures, offline games, and writing, for example – provided the programs don’t need updates.

If you use your computer for business, regardless of whether you’re running Windows 10 or 11, make regular backups of your data so that in case something happens, you don’t lose everything.

Who should I be mad at?

Microsoft.
